About Yoga & FAQ's

"Peace comes not from doing, but from undoing; not from getting, but from letting go."

Swami Satchidananda

The term Hatha Yoga refers to the Ha (Sun) and Tha (Moon) aspects of the practice, describing how the Hatha aims to balance the more physical practices of yoga, with the spiritual, emotional and mental aspects. Classes include a variety of physical postures aimed at stretching and strengthening the body, as well as breathing exercises, meditation practices, deep relaxation techniques, and even a little bit of yoga philosophy. I aim to lead sessions in a very inclusive way so that no-one is left with nothing to do and everyone feels that they can find a version of the practice that suits them. All practices (physical, breathing, and meditation) are taught in stages, allowing you to stick at the stage that suits you, there is never any pressure to do more than you are comfortable with, and you can rest at any time. You will also get the chance to challenge yourself, if you want to.

Yoga for pregnancy is based on traditional yoga practices, but with the pregnant woman in mind. Classes include various postures to stretch out and ease aches and pains that pregnancy can sometimes bring, as well as poses to strengthen the body and maintain movement and flexibility. Pregnancy Yoga also includes breathing, meditation, and relaxation techniques that can be very helpful during pregnancy and during labour and birth. Some birth preparation is included in the classes as well, to help you understand how yoga and mindfullness can help you during pregnancy, birth and beyond. I aim to lead all my sessions in a very inclusive way so that no-one is left with nothing to do and everyone feels that they can find a version of the practice that suits them. All practices (physical, breathing, and meditation) are taught in stages, allowing you to stick at the stage that suits you, there is never any pressure to do more than you are comfortable with, and you can rest at any time. All classes are followed by tea and biscuits and a chance to chat with each other.

Mother and Baby Yoga classes include Postnatal Yoga for Mothers, Baby Yoga, Breathing Practicies, and Relaxation Techniques. They are aimed at providing a safe, gentle way to exercise after pregnancy. Relaxation and finding calm within the business of parenting are a main focus of the classes, as is social time and sharing experiences with other mothers. These classes are also a lovely chance to bond with your baby, and encourage their physical and neurological developement using Yoga. Classes are very baby-led and you are encouraged to read baby's cues, care for them as needed, and fit in as much yoga as you can around that. All classes are followed by tea and biscuits and a chance to chat with the other Mams.

Are your classes suitable for beginners?

Yes! All of my classes are suitable for beginners, although it helps if I know in advance if someone hasn't done yoga before so I can keep an extra eye on you.

I have an injury/ailment, can I still come to yoga?

Please ensure you have consulted your doctor and/or physiotherapist before attending my classes. My classes are taught in a staged approach, allowing you to take things at your own pace, but I can also offer alternatives where necessary, so please do make sure to inform me if you have any injuries or ailments at any time.

Can I bring my child (under 18) with me?

From the age of 14, anyone can attend my classes, but those under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult, and child protection forms will need to be signed so please arrive a little earlier to classes, and inform me before attending.
